Amazon Relational Database Service (RDS)

Launch and scale a relational database in the cloud with just a few clicks.

Amazon RDS Relational Database Service makes it easy to set up, deploy, and scale a relational database in the cloud. This cost-effective and scalable capacity automates time-consuming administrative tasks such as hardware provisioning, database setup, patching, and backups. This allows you to focus on your applications so you can deliver the fast performance, high availability, security, and consistency they need.

Amazon RDS is available in a variety of database types—optimized for memory, performance, or I/O—and provides you with six familiar database engines, including Amazon Aurora, PostgreSQL, MySQL, MariaDB, Oracle Database, and SQL Server. To migrate or replicate your existing databases to Amazon RDS, you can use the AWS Database Migration Service.

Benefits

Cheap

You pay a very low rate and only pay for the resources you actually consume. Additionally, you benefit from the On-Demand pricing option with no upfront or long-term commitments or even lower hourly rates through our reserved sample pricing.

Highly scalable

You can scale your database compute and storage resources with just a few mouse clicks or an API call, often non-stop. Many Amazon RDS engine variants allow you to read one or more Reply instances to load read traffic from your primary database instance.

Easy to Manage

Amazon RDS makes it easy to go from project concept to deployment. Use the Amazon RDS management console, the AWS RDS command-line interface, or simple API calls to access production-ready relational database capabilities in minutes. No infrastructure to provision and no need to install and maintain database software.

Available and Durable

Amazon RDS is powered by the same highly reliable infrastructure used by other Amazon Web Services. When you provision a Multi-AZ DB instance, Amazon RDS simultaneously replicates the data to a standby instance in another available zone (AZ). Amazon RDS has many other features that increase reliability for critical production databases, including automatic backups, database snapshots, and automatic host replacement.

Secure

Amazon RDS makes it easy to control network access to your database. Amazon RDS also lets you run your database instances in an Amazon VPC A, which allows you to isolate your database instances and connect to your existing IT infrastructure via an industry-standard encrypted VPN. Many Amazon RDS engine variants offer encryption at rest and encryption in transit.

Fast

Amazon RDS supports the most demanding database applications. You can choose from two SSD-backed storage options: one for high-performance OLTP applications and one for cost-effective general-purpose use. Additionally, Amazon Aurora offers performance on par with commercial databases at 1/10 the cost.
