FAQs

What is a virtual server?

This type of hosting is similar to a dedicated server but uses a shared server environment. Your physical server may be hosted in a data center. The virtual server is also a part of this physical server that has its own operating system, disk space, and bandwidth. VPS offers extensive server customization options but is less expensive than a dedicated server.

How does a virtual server work?

VPS is like using virtualized operating system software. For example, let’s say you have a MacBook Pro but you want to use Windows to run some applications. Instead of buying a separate Windows computer, you can use software like VirtualBox or VMware. These software allow you to run a virtual version of the Windows operating system on your Mac. The same is true for a virtual server. On a single physical server, you can run multiple virtual servers. Each of these servers will act as a separate dedicated server.

Is bandwidth usage calculated from inbound traffic, or both inbound and outbound?

Your bandwidth usage is based on the higher of your inbound or outbound traffic. For example, if your VPS uses 100GB of inbound bandwidth and 200GB of outbound bandwidth, your usage for billing purposes is 200GB.

Are Vultr services GDPR compliant?
